Choosing the right balance board size is one of the most common questions we get. The good news: the answer is simpler than you might think. Here's everything you need to know.
The two Indo Board sizes
Indo Board makes two deck sizes. Everything else — roller choice, graphic, bundle configuration — is a separate decision from size.
The Original is 30 inches long and 18 inches wide. It is shorter and wider than the Rocker, which makes it more stable underfoot. The flat deck and wood stops at either end prevent the board from rolling too far, giving you a controlled, predictable range of motion. This balance board size works for the vast majority of riders regardless of height, weight, or experience level.
The Rocker is 33 inches long and 16 inches wide. It is longer and narrower than the Original, with a slight reverse-camber shape built into the deck. There are no stops, which means full range of motion from end to end. This balance board size is designed for experienced riders who want to perform tricks, simulate surf transitions, or push their training further.
Which balance board size is right for you
Start with the Original if you are new to balance boards, returning from an injury, using the board at a standing desk, or buying as a gift. The wider deck and controlled range of motion make the learning curve shorter and the experience more accessible from day one.
Choose the Rocker if you have already mastered the Original, you ride surf, skate, or snow at an advanced level, or you want the most performance-oriented balance board size in the lineup. The narrower deck and full rocker shape raise the difficulty ceiling significantly.
Roller size matters too
Once you have chosen your deck, you choose your roller. Indo Board offers two options and the size difference affects how the board feels underfoot.
The Foam Roller is 6 inches in diameter. It is softer and grippier than the plastic roller, which slows the board down slightly and makes it more forgiving. This is the better starting point for most beginners regardless of which deck size they choose.
The Original Roller is 6.5 inches in diameter. It is rigid, with three bands of grip tape for controlled performance. It has been the standard Indo Board roller for decades and is the right choice for riders who want faster response and the full range of tricks the board is capable of.
Weight limit
The Original deck is rated to 350 lbs. If you have questions about weight limits for specific configurations, contact us directly at info@indoboard.com.
Still not sure?
If you are genuinely torn between the two balance board sizes, start with the Original. Every skill you build on the Original transfers directly to the Rocker. Most riders who own both started on the Original first.

“I’m a deep-sea biologist. Although I spend some of my time at sea and working on my feet, I spend far more time rooted to my desk on land writing up my research. The switch from the two modes of work can leave my back vulnerable to injury, which is why I try to do as much of my desk work on my feet and on my Barefoot INDO BOARD and Indo FLOW Cushion. This keeps my back and core muscles engaged and conditioned. And it helps me make that transition from desk to fieldwork without the risk of damage. ” – Dr. C. Nicolai Roterman, Univerity of Oxford

“99.999% of people in an office sit as a given. We were designed to stand not sit, The INDO BOARD “Barefoot” takes standing to another level. Stepping off my “Barefoot” feels like stepping onto dry land after a day at sea.”
– Dee Caldwell, European Sales Manager at O’Neill Wetsuits & Former Free Style Windsurfing World Champion

“After my back operation for a prolapsed disk, I was told that I should stand at my desk. The INDO BOARD Barefoot pushes the boundaries of standing as well as enabling me to keep my lower back engaged and strengthening my core which is key to a healthy back.”
