Hunter Joslin.

Founder-Inventor of Indo Board Balance Trainer; "In this new age of fitness awareness, the notion of balance training is essential, particularly in board sports utilizing the core muscles."

The Story

Indo Board founder Hunter Joslin has always been passionate about balance. The surfing boom of the 1960s swept him up, and by age 16 he was not only surfing and swimming competitively but also hooked on a homemade balance board. He practiced daily, inventing tricks and building skills that soon gave him an edge in surfing over friends who spent far more time in the water.

In the early 1970s Hunter worked for a surfboard manufacturer and experimented with skateboards, skimboards, and balance boards. In 1975 he mounted a skimboard on a roller, creating the first version of the Indo Board. Though he considered marketing it as early as 1976, he decided instead to pursue surfing and skateboarding. Immersed in the rise of vertical skateboarding, he became a well-known contest announcer, writing for magazines and later commentating at professional surfing, skateboarding, wakeboarding, and waterskiing events around the world. He also remained a dedicated surfer, traveling extensively and launching side businesses tied to surf culture.

By the late 1990s Hunter returned to his original passion: designing a better balance board. In 1998 he founded Indo Board and introduced the Indo Board Balance Trainer. Originally created to help surfers train out of the water, it quickly proved valuable across sports and fitness disciplines, improving strength, flexibility, and core stability.

Today, Indo Board is the leading balance board brand worldwide, trusted by athletes and fitness professionals alike. Hunter continues to advocate balance training as a foundation for performance, health, and fun.
