Integration of the Indo Board into Fitness Programs

Functional balance training and instability resistance training have a place in functional fitness training that will produce specific benefits when preformed under the right conditions. Functional balance training not only improves balance, coordination, neuromuscular response, postural awareness and proprioception but when combined with resistance training can provide a truly integrated training program that provides a wider range of benefits and muscle activation than a typical stable environment resistance training program.

It is also important to note that not all balance training devices are created equally. Studies have shown that in the case of accomplished athletes the use of moderately unstable training devices did not provide sufficient challenges to the neuromuscular system in highly resistance-trained individuals. Since highly trained individuals may already possess enhanced stability from the use of dynamic free weights, a greater degree of instability may be necessary. Indo Board balance training products have been specifically designed to offer the most dynamic and unstable balance training available. It is equally important to understand that the Indo Board offers a wide range of products that can be used easily and safely by individuals ranging in age from young children to senior adults and ranging in athletic experience from unconditioned non-athletes to the worlds most elite athletes.

As with any type of fitness training, conditioning, injury prevention or rehabilitation program, it is imperative that one properly assess the individual, develop objectives and goals, and implement safe and effective exercises that are specifically targeted at achieving those goals. The Indo Board can be used wherever an open 6 feet wide surface area is available, indoors or out (a carpeted area is recommended). The learning curve for most enthusiasts is about 5-15 minutes to master basic control of the device. For those ready to progress to a higher perfomance level, or for taller Indo Board enthusiasts, the larger Indo Pro model provides increased surface area on the board, thus making it a more challenging and entertaining ride.
